I used this guide saw and a regular hacksaw to cut two carbon rods and created flat cuts for both. Details: I used a standard hacksaw (with a fine notched blade). I screwed in the "locking wedge" and the guide stayed in place while I let the hacksaw blade do its work (in other words, I wasn't pretending to cut wood and pull on the blade). After cutting, I smoothed the top of the stem *neatly* with a file to remove rough edges (careful - don't rub the carbon fiber layers too hard - they will chip/chip). basically the same design as many other saw guides. And you need to use a regular hacksaw. Carbon blades are much wider so they won't fit through the hole. If you see it for a low price, it works. If you see it for the same price as Park Tool's (SG-6) version, I'll probably switch to a well-known brand. But both will get the job done.
