Review on πŸ’» Orinoco Silver 802.11b Wireless PC Card by Aaron Leburu

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works on both PC and Mac systems

I bought two Orinoco Silver PC cards, one for my old G3 Powerbook (Wallstreet) and one for my daughter's Dell Latitude laptop. Both work great and provide very good signals and data transfer speeds anywhere in the house. Installation on a Dell Latitude (running Win ME) was easy. Install the drivers from the included CD and plug in the card and I was on my home wireless network using 64-bit WEP for security. Installation on a Macintosh Powerbook was more problematic. There is a Mac drivers folder on the CD that came with this card, but they didn't work for me. However, a web search revealed that this is the same card sold as the Apple Airport Card and I can use the Apple Airport Drivers. So I downloaded and installed Airport 2.0.2 (which works with MacOS 9.0.4 and later). As my Powerbook is out of date (1998) I can't update MacOS 9.1 and use the latest Airport drivers (2.0.4), but 2.0.2 works fine and supports 64-bit WEP which I use on my home network. .My home network is based on Netgear FM411P Router/Firewall/Access Point/Print Server which works great with these cards.

Pros
