Review on Instinct Ultimate Protein Chicken Natural by Holly Smith

Some pros, too many cons

It's hard to find dry cat food that doesn't contain anything harmful to cats. We love that this food is grain, corn, potato, soy and wheat free (we have a diabetic cat so this is an issue). Unfortunately, ingredient #2 (tapioca) in this food is bad for cats, and ingredient #4 (flaxseed) appears to be even worse. Another of our cats is having trouble breathing; Flaxseed is high in lignin, an insoluble fiber. This caused his stomach to become very swollen and he remained bloated throughout his meal, making his breathing even more severe and difficult for him. It's not a problem with overeating - cats need protein every few hours, so they'll eat a little every few hours or so and then go back to their feline activities. We are trying to switch her from this food to another that does not contain flaxseed. Since we started the feed change (4-5 days ago) he hasn't eaten any of this food. His stomach had already started to shrink a little; hopefully he will be back to his normal size soon so his breathing is normal again. more alkaline, leading to urinary tract infections - removal of rosemary extract - it is toxic to cats - use of rice bran instead of tapioca; Rice bran promotes good gut health. - Using salmon instead of flaxseed - Salmon is a much better source of omega acids; and - using real pumpkin instead of pumpkin seeds; Pumpkin contains fiber and beta-carotene and is very beneficial for gut health, especially when combined with rice bran. Thank you for your attention!
