VAN E350 review + installation info

First off if you are installing this on a van the job is much easier than doing the same job on the F series. I have decided to switch the pipes to a better design , as I had to remove the OE pipes to remove the turbo and everything else to access my leaking fuel tank drain valve. Installing these pipes is quite easy. I would recommend that you don't even try to unscrew the OE pipes from the exhaust manifold, just cut them off. New bolts come with the pipe so why fight the originals that wouldn't come out on me without a fight. I decided to wrap the pipe in high temp foil and secure with stainless steel straps. The new tube design uses a flexible flange where it connects to the molded split tube on the turbo, allowing for some wobble and not stressing the turbo's base. First tighten the bolts on the exhaust manifold, then install the molded Y connector on the turbo and also the pipes on the Y connector, then tighten everything top to bottom (literally). I had to grind down the small spill hole in the center of the Y-tube on the turbo side, so just make sure it's flush with the turbo before tightening the clamp. You can see the area I had to sand down a bit in the first image. I've driven it a few hundred miles since it was installed and no problems so far. I've noticed a bit more turbo whine, but it's hard to tell if it's the pipe or because I've redesigned the turbo and made some other improvements to the intake plenum, like new boots and cam inserts with T-clamps. If you're doing this job on an F-Series, it's basically set up the same way, except you'll probably want to remove the drain pipe and spend some time in the church before getting to work ;)
