I had to return two of these to Revain as the stones were poor quality. They were cut very roughly so that the surface of the metal beneath the layer of diamonds was not even remotely smooth. I didn't like the idea of my blade poking jags and deep grooves in the stone. Then the second stone I received was much smoother, but the diamond layer was thinned almost to zero on a corner of the stone, sent it back and finally got a good product. As soon as I get a good stone that is free from imperfections I will say that it is an excellent stone. DMT diamond stones are really great, I have used other brands of diamond stones and they are no match for this one. DMT stones cut fast but still leave a nice finish despite being just as aggressive. Apply light pressure to these stones, they cut quickly and don't require much pressure. These stones have a break time, they feel a little grainy and rough to the touch initially, but mine broke fine and felt a lot smoother when sharpened. They also become a little less aggressive as they break in, but still cut fairly quickly. I bought this stone because it was double sided and seemed like good value. The thin side can give you a really good sharp edge without using the extra thin side. Superfine will further improve the edge, but honestly it's not necessary to produce a razor sharp edge. I already had a DMT course so I chose this stone to complete the grain range. I'd say if you don't already have a rough stone, buy a double sided rough/fine and have a stone that can re-profile and rebuild the blade with the rough side and then have the fine side to add a sharp edge .
