My problem seems to be solved.
I wasn't sure if my Montero's problem was with the MAF sensor, but all signs pointed to it being the most likely culprit. The 2003 Montero Limited doesn't have an idle control valve, which most people immediately suspect for idle problems. The package arrived two days later (earlier than expected), installation took about 20 minutes. The truck started fine and seems to have solved the idle/start issue. I've only driven it about 50 miles since installing it, but it seems to have been a relatively inexpensive fix to the problem.
