I don't want to criticize these grinding cones too much because they are for a specific purpose and advertised that way - they are for use in car engines. So polishing is polishing. Most of these cones are already narrowing. I would rather buy a straight cone kit. They naturally wear in cones when you use them. That note aside, this kit helped me make a set of mild steel/cast iron handrails for our porch. They penetrate corners well and last a decent time. you could make it worse
