The plates smell, I can't use them

I like the plates but they smell so strongly of something. It almost smells like they were sprayed with pesticides in the camp. The strong odor is on the outside of the plastic and all plates smell of this odor when removed from the plastic. I don't use them without foil. I will not buy again.
