The sizes are strange. They say add 2 inches to your actual - don't. Don't pay attention to what they say. Instead, order your actual waist size (which may differ from your pant size). For example, if your waist is 44, order a 44 belt: total length 49.5 - first loop 41.5 - last loop 45.5 - middle loop 44 Also, they claim to say 35mm but I measure 33.3mm . This is the average thickness of the belt for a dress, so it looks good. The buckle measures 38mm, slightly larger than the belt itself but not overwhelming, the proportions are good. I think it's a very nice belt and buckle, easy to twist. The black side is patent leather and the brown side is softer bonded leather. The brown side is not cognac, there is no red in it. It's just a medium brown, so not dressy, just a casual or business color. The skin is thin, so both sides are prone to staining. The black had a puncture on arrival, although it comes in a nice box, rolling it next to the buckle was enough to leave a stain on it. Brown almost scratched the skin the very first time I put it on, just touching the buckle will make a nick in it. I think both polish well with shoe polish and probably won't be noticeable when applied. But that's a lot of damage in the first 24 hours of ownership. But for the price, you can't really complain.
