I got this valve to provide some protection against bottom leaks after the black tank main valve developed a small leak. This item mounts at the end of the drain pipe with a 3 inch gauge valve. While the black tank's main valve leaks a little, this valve acts as a backup to trap sewage in the drain pipe and works well to prevent leaks to the ground. One caveat that others have mentioned, once you've installed the valve on the drain pipe, it's great for connecting a hose to a disposal station. If you then turn the drain hose counter-clockwise to remove it from the valve, the valve may rotate and detach from the drain pipe on the van. So the answer is to hold that valve in place while you disconnect the drain hose and you should be fine. A previous reviewer installed some clips to hold the valve to the van and I'll try that.
