Review on HON HON2281VA10T Lota Office Chair by Joyce Jones

Great chair but not very comfortable to recline

This is a great chair for the average home office. It's quite comfortable and looks great. It feels VERY well made. Unlike some cheaper chairs, all of the chair's hardware and hardware is very durable. That fact combined with the HON lifetime guarantee (as opposed to 1 or 2 years on most chairs) leads me to believe it will last for many years to come. not the best choice for those who like softer seats. The mesh back is great, it definitely keeps you cool. However, by far the biggest problems relate to the tilt function and the lack of tension adjustment. If you watch the video on the HON website, you'll see that they claim that the user's weight acts as a counterbalance to the tilt. In other words, you can just sit back with no adjustment required. While technically correct, the weight required to actually recline is too much. I must consciously press all my weight against my back to lean back, or plant my feet on the floor to "push" my back into the chair. And if you don't maintain that force on your back, it will push you back into an upright position. This problem would be solved if the chair, like many other chairs, had the resistance adjustment needed to recline. The lack of such an adjustment makes reclining in this chair just too difficult and not at all comfortable and intuitive. It's a pity, because otherwise the chair is wonderful. I hope that over time the spring that tensions the recline function will loosen up and make it easier to recline. Until then, I'm just sitting.
