Review on American Crafts Healing Cutting 24 Inch by Denise Davis

Good cutting mat. And it's PINK!

I already have several self-healing cutting mats. One big enough to cover most of my desk - I think it's 24" x 36". I love that I can write on it without worrying about cutting up my desk or accidentally spilling paint/ink/glue/etc. on my desk and I love the smooth writing surface that creates a good self-healing mat. The only problem? This ugly green I have (black on the other side) doesn't cover my entire desk, so I'm constantly either writing over the edge or keeping some sort of stash on my desk. (Tang: Does that mean I actually went too far? More than once?!) I've been looking for another self-healing cutting mat for a while to fill the rest of the table, but couldn't find any. I want another green and black one. Since I love all things pink it was like a double win! The perfect shade of pink, this rug takes cuts easily and heals on its own instantly. It also provides a pleasantly familiar writing surface for Excelencia! The white grid lines really stand out and make measuring and drawing straight lines incredibly easy. (I'm terrible at drawing straight lines - even with a ruler.) It comes with a sticker that attaches to the top and folds in and attaches to the other side as well. Removing the adhesive is fairly easy, but you'll likely find that a minimal amount of Goo Gone or Sticky Stuff Remover will help remove the slightly sticky film that remains. It's hard to describe - I had no trouble removing the large label, it came off cleanly but left an oddly sticky film. Not problematic enough to ruin your day (or even make you think about buying this rug), just something to be aware of. Working on a self-healing mat makes everything so much easier. Your handwriting will improve dramatically when you write on it - pens you previously disliked (or didn't want to use) will suddenly become your favourites. The best thing about this self-healing mat besides being pink? Unless the material is healing well and you have two sides to work with. So you can make one side the side you do your dirty work on (painting, pasting, etc.) and then flip it over when you use it as a table protector to keep it clean and pretty. I've been using self-healing mats for so long I can't remember life without them! I also love Vyco, a surprisingly smooth and cool self-healing mat/tread that can be placed on a countertop. I actually prefer Vyco, but it's kind of durable - and what I love about these mats is their portability. Vyco is simply attached to the surface with a special double-sided adhesive and can easily be trimmed with scissors or Xacto to perfectly fit the contours of your desk or desk. There is nothing better than this flat smooth surface, but the consumption is more. Again, Vyco lasts a very long time before you replace it. It comes in grey/cream and green/cream - your choice of which color is face up. If you're interested, it's available here: Alvin Home Indoor Office Craft Art Draft VYCO Green/Cream Board Cover, 31" x 42" Sheet (VBC44-5). Whether I decide to put Vyco back on my desk or desktop remains to be seen. But everyone had better keep their hands off my pink carpet! :)
