Review on Pro Ject Phono Box Preamplifier Black by Susan Loera

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Impressive cheap phono preamp

My receiver's phono input sounded a bit weak. The left channel also sounded slightly weaker than the right channel, which was very annoying. Of course, this isn't the best receiver on the planet. First I checked the cable connections, then the phono alignment, anti-skating adjustments, etc. There are a few more tedious troubleshooting steps, but I figured I'd add a phono preamp that feeds the phono input on my receiver eliminated. In my setup, this phono stage solved my volume problems and improved channel separation. In general, the sound of the right and left channels is balanced, the purity of the sound has improved, the channel separation is noticeable, and the build quality is surprisingly good. It feels like an icy, heavy, hard piece of metal.
