These mats were about as others have described: cheap and my cats loved lying on them. That is, unless I smear catnip on them. They're fairly flexible, so if they're attached to a fabric chair or sofa with shaped pins, they'll probably work just fine. I was hoping to use them to replace the torn woven sisal on two cat towers but I didn't bother. They helped my cats not to scratch my beautiful LR rug directly. But the best and most durable item for this was sisal floor mats. The fiber resists severe scratches well and the pieces are easily removed with a vacuum cleaner. I have several of these rugs here at Revain and I love all 3 cats, only one of which was a horizontal scratch demon.
