.or How I learned to stop worrying and to love the HEART.

I am a dog owner and trainer with a thirst for knowledge. When I first started looking for great dog food I did my research and started with Blue Buffalo. I tried a number of premium brands and formulas before this came out and nothing, including this brand's regular line, compares to CORE. It's not the cheapest, but at least in Minnesota I can't find a better price for it. If you can subscribe and keep the discount, this feed is a steal! Vets and trainers constantly observe my dogs as very healthy. After switching to CORE, they have a noticeably softer coat and fewer skin problems. I also no longer deal with the frequent bloating that some premium brands have caused. Everyone has a budget, but try to find one you can afford by using the best of the following: The first ingredient should always be meat. As with folk labels, the first few ingredients contain the most product. Lamb and then chicken are the most digestible for most dogs. Flour is like protein powder made by maximizing potency in a stew-like mix. It contains more protein than meat simply due to the exclusion of water per ounce. However, not all meals are created equal. Make sure the source is listed. The simple phrase "poultry meal" can mean it's from any source you can find and usually means varying degrees of quality. Avoid grains as they can irritate many dogs' stomachs. You need potatoes, oats, and/or brown rice for fiber and carbs. If you see "beer rice" on the label, it shouldn't be in the top 5 ingredients (or even for me). It's a cheaply processed carbohydrate and bulking agent. Flaxseed and fish oil are great for your skin and coat. During the winter I added salmon oil to my dog food but since they started using this food it is no longer necessary. Mentioning the source of fish oil indicates its quality, as does the source of the food. I like foods with a small amount of antioxidant ingredients, like blueberries and broccoli. Good for us, great for them. This is just my opinion. When I can, I treat myself to fresh clothes. - This list of vitamins at the end? This is a daily multivitamin for your dog. Glucosamine is important for healthy joints of all sizes, ages and weights. This product contains natural preservatives which I prefer for her diet and my own whenever possible.- Percent Protein! Veterinarians say that for a normal adult dog, 15% should not be exceeded; My goal is closer to 25% or 30%. If your dog is very active, this should be your goal too; But even if your dog is not that active, a higher protein content will do. Early studies claimed it could cause kidney failure, but that study has long been disproved. Do not believe me? Do your own research. Don't take the word of sales reps, breeders, and even many veterinarians. Most of them did not pay attention to nutritional science, its achievements and had no plans of their own. Even a well-intentioned veterinarian may be unaware of some of them and act on outdated common knowledge. Never change your dog's food all at once. Note her unique response to the new feed for the first few weeks at 100%. Pay attention to her bowel movements and the frequency of bowl movements. Watch out for weight fluctuations. New food means you may need to increase or decrease volume per meal. Every dog has unique needs and sensitivities just like us, so even good food may not be right for your dog. Hope that helps!
