Review on 🌊 Waterproof Meross Assistant Compatible with SmartThings for Enhanced Optimization by James Julien

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good price for what it does

Full Disclosure: I received this product from Meross for free. I was asked to leave a review after using it. The device is well made. I haven't tested it in all weather conditions. The IP44 rating indicates that it must be protected from "splash water". I will use it outdoors but will try to protect it from moisture (rain, snow, sprinklers) as much as possible. Setup was easy, I have one device that works with both the Meross app and Alexa. Each of them can independently control two separate outputs. It's great for controlling Christmas lights, insect traps, low voltage lights and more. Note that it says not to use it with pomp. Pay attention to the power rating listed for the unit, including the peak starting power requirements for motors and pumps (which usually blow fuses), and you should be fine. Here are some improvement opportunities that I've noticed: 1.) Turning on the outlet from the device itself rather than remotely only provides an option to turn both plugs on or off; There is no way to manage the plugs yourself. 2.) The display on the device is green during operation, does not light up. It would be helpful if there was a way to indicate when only one fork is on, which is on and which isn't. Having two switches would solve both this problem and the first one I described. 3.) Install a circuit breaker on the unit in lieu of an internal fuse that does not appear to be user accessible or maintenance free. This would solve many of the reported problems and discourage people from turning them into bricks. 4.) The rubber connector cover is one piece and not attached to the device. While it is possible to connect only one end to protect a connector, if the other end can be used, depending on the connector type, this can be problematic. It would be much better to have independent port covers that snap into the device so they don't get lost when unplugged. In fact, these are just four of my suggestions for improvement. For $30, it's pretty nice to have a device with a schedule, sunrise/sunset alarms (via app), and Google, Homekit, and Alexa compatibility. If I need more external plugs I will definitely buy another one of these. I also have a Meross garage door opener which I LOVE. Meross manufactures reliable products at very reasonable prices.

Pros
  • Reliable connection: The Meross smart outdoor socket has a longer WiFi range and a slower battery life. Ideal for your garden, backyard, porch, balcony, garage or basement where home WiFi coverage may be poor. Please connect your phone to your 2.4GHz home WiFi while setting up the external power socket. The Apple HomeKit website is listed. Please check the WiFi signal in the device settings to ensure that the smart outdoor socket has a sufficiently strong WiFi coverage.
Cons
  • So far so good
