Great for outdoor lighting

This is my third Meross outdoor socket and all three are used year round. Survive rain, snow, ice and sun or in this case my dogs and the robot vacuum in the living room. Integrates quickly and easily into any smart home platform, Homekit, Smartthings, Alexa, Google Home or works standalone with the Meross app.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Not the best

Easy setup with Google Assistant

I just got my Meross Smart Outdoor Plug and didn't have time for a long term test. But I found it really easy to set up and integrate with my other smart devices. I really like how I can name the smart plug as well as each individual plugin. So I can switch off both plugs at once or each plug individually. I think this will work great with my Christmas lights next year.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Gotchas

Can't install in HomeKit

Looks like I bought a brick! Will not be installed on Apple HomeKit, which is required for operation. First I realized that I had to disable the VPN to start the installation. This issue has been fixed but not installed in HomeKit. Follow the recommended troubleshooting procedures. I even turned off the 5GHz WiFi band to see if that would help. Nothing: It just tries to connect and then gets the error message "Failed to add accessory". In the trash.

Pros
  • Nice thing
Cons
  • Very expensive

Poor integration with HomeKit or worse.

After many attempts to add HomeKit this failed. No problem with 2.4 or 5GHz as they highlight my router and list it as online. Since most of the time it doesn't work when added to a Home app, I can only assume that it logs into the network and works with WPA2 encryption. because it's connected to the network but not authenticated by Apple or something. Not at all satisfied. All of this is concerning as he is now on my network and doing God knows what.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Everything is great

Better than others for 1/3 the price!

Possibly the easiest HomeKit setup I've ever done with a product! I have over 40 Apple HomeKit devices in my home from very reputable companies, but this is one of the best products I've bought. I bought it to turn on the fountain and light separately. Works flawlessly! I love that it's a device with separate controls for each outlet. I have two outside outlets from another manufacturer that cost MUCH more than these and while they've never let me down, I can't control the two outletsโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Expensive

Poor HomeKit integration, poor security, and intermittent operation

I bought this unit to further expand my HomeKit network of mainly indoor and outdoor iHome and iDevices outlets. After installation, my router/firewall security alarm went off, indicating a serious problem with the Meross device. It turned out that port 80 (http) was open and the userid and password were set to "admin". For those who don't understand security, believe me this is REALLY BAD. To fix this you need to open the Meross app, add devices to the app (no integration with the Home app)โ€ฆ

Pros
  • For Android users: Works with any Android smartphone or tablet with OS 4.1 or later. Android users can easily set up the Meross app. Then set up meross with your smart speakers according to your wishes.
Cons
  • Only available in black

Powered by Wi-Fi Extender with Meross support

Failed to load media. I bought the indoor version and loved it so much I bought this to withstand the outdoor weather. Use this to light the rope around our back deck. I used to use a switch and combine it with multiple power strips and light switches, and now I can do it all with Siri! I loved the Meross brand so much and just kept the same brand for cohesion. At first I couldn't get it to work due to the distance to the router. I sent a message to Meross support and got help right away. Iโ€ฆ

Good price for what it does

Full Disclosure: I received this product from Meross for free. I was asked to leave a review after using it. The device is well made. I haven't tested it in all weather conditions. The IP44 rating indicates that it must be protected from "splash water". I will use it outdoors but will try to protect it from moisture (rain, snow, sprinklers) as much as possible. Setup was easy, I have one device that works with both the Meross app and Alexa. Each of them can independently control two separateโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Reliable connection: The Meross smart outdoor socket has a longer WiFi range and a slower battery life. Ideal for your garden, backyard, porch, balcony, garage or basement where home WiFi coverage may be poor. Please connect your phone to your 2.4GHz home WiFi while setting up the external power socket. The Apple HomeKit website is listed. Please check the WiFi signal in the device settings to ensure that the smart outdoor socket has a sufficiently strong WiFi coverage.
Cons
  • So far so good
