The strap hurts, doesn't fit the leg

The sandal is great in every way except one: the metal ring portion of the sandal, where you thread the top strap to pull back and secure, twists and digs into the top of the foot instead of lying down. flat relative to the skin. I tried to fix it but the only solution I found was to not put the sandals on fully.
