Review on 15-Foot High Temperature Flue by 3M by Josh Sharp

A great product that will last for many years

Always a great product that will last for many years and do the job it was designed for. Good to 600 degrees Fahrenheit when applied to chilled tubes; The heat will stick the tape to the metal pipe as the temperature rises. Note. Some building inspectors advise against taping the chimney joints of stoves, tumble dryers and water heaters, so check with local building codes before using this tape, especially if you are selling a home. However, this chimney tape protects these connections from potential carbon monoxide leaks that can occur in both new and old chimneys. Be sure to clean the metal surface before attaching to make the tape stick firmly; A brush with metal bristles will do the job just fine. My addendum, added mid-December 2019: I just checked the chimney and furnace connections after using 3M tape for 2.5 years. Not a single sign of heat exposure to bolted joints, proving that 3M makes a reliable product for this type of job. I just installed an Aprilaire 600 whole house humidification system on a Carrier gas fire. I'll be using this 3M tape again to seal all the joints of the round metal bypass tube where it connects to the hot stove updraft duct and around the joint at the perimeter of the base where the humidifier connects to the cooling duct is. In the latter case, you can also use a bead of silicone or other approved caulk, but I prefer to use something more permanent. So I'm sticking with 3M tape, especially since I already have a roll of it.

Pros
  • 1.5" x 15ft roll
