I bought four medium sized ice packs and saw that bulging forms on the first freeze. I have a vague impression that the freezing process, starting on the outside and gradually moving inwards, causes the liquid to flow in one direction and form a bulge. This can apparently be remedied by thawing the bump with hot water and immediately refreezing it. Place the bag in the freezer horizontally, not vertically. This will cause the initial bulge to form upwards somewhere on the flat surface, hopefully without breaking through the plastic wrap. Thaw the outer layer by submerging the pouch in hot water or pouring hot water over the pouch. where is the bump. After a few minutes, the bulge should decrease.3. Refreeze the wrapper before thawing the entire unit - the frozen core will prevent a new bulge from forming.
