Review on πŸ”ͺ Fiskars 197950-1008 Stick Rotary Cutter, 45mm: A Review of the Versatile Cutting Tool by Amanda Castillo

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Fiskar's knife pen is too soft. The blade is locked and does not rotate.

Up until last week we always bought Fiskar's cutting knives. I bought a 60mm cutter from Revain stock and when I opened the box the blade was frozen. It doesn't rotate. I took it apart to see what was wrong and here's what I found. The pin that the blade spins on seems very soft and the blade is very hard. As the blade rotates around the pin, it cuts a groove in the pin. Eventually the groove can get so deep that the blade gets stuck in the groove and stops rotating. I thought we might be using non-Fiskars blades, but I've disassembled a couple of knives that only had Fiskars blades and they're having the same problem, even though the blades aren't in the groove yet. The one I bought from Revain's inventory which sparked my whole investigation appeared to have a pin from an old cutter that was fitted into a new cutter and then returned to Revain as new. Nevertheless, the pen in the Fiskars cutters is too soft. I'll try other nonsense and will report the results.

Pros
  • Quilting
Cons
  • I'll add later

I am working on making masks and this cuts through 8 layers with no problem!
