an inexpensive way to get into ultrawide gaming if you're willing to make some concessions

First, let me say that this monitor is good enough to get you into the ultra-wide gaming arena, but it's not amazing and definitely not for everyone. Background: I spontaneously bought this monitor from Costco where it was $350. I've had my eye on a selection of ultrawide monitors for a while, but accessing 1440p gaming on a 35-inch screen will typically set you back at least $600, and that was way overpriced. About the monitor: This is a 1080p monitor with a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1080. That means it's not as sharp as its 1440 counterparts. I've heard that 1080p on a 34-inch screen is just not acceptable is, but I've found that in practice it's more than enough for gaming and is also comfortable for productivity e.g. reading/viewing content on the web. One thing to note is that this panel cuts corners in a few spots, its gloss black exterior makes it cheap, there's no tilt, swivel, or height adjustment (although there are VESA mounting holes), no DP or DVI support. , and the monitor shakes quite noticeably on the stand, and there's also some slight bleeding in the bottom left corner, but that's present to some degree even on $1200 monitors, so that's a bit of luck. If you can work around these drawbacks, then I've felt this monitor is right up my alley for the price. There are several customizable profiles that heat up or cool down the image, as well as a "game mode". ", which promises to stabilize blacks, although I don't see much of a difference. Other considerations: Many will complain about the resolution on this monitor, and while the Acer Predator X34 is sharper and has more features, it's important to self-assess ask if your setup can actually support that resolution. As the 1080s have only recently been released at the time of this test and you can see that even SLI performance compared to true 4K is struggling to maintain 60fps at ultra settings in demanding games , you should be prepared to take a critical look at your settings and see if you're getting the best bang for your buck I understand that this monitor with the 2980 doesn't necessarily get the most out of my computer, but I'm a long way from 4K -35 inch territory. I think for consumers willing to compromise (and buy a Vesa mount) this one puts it monitor is a bargain. As I continue to use it I'll share what I find and add more photos. Seriously, get a VESA mount, the stand sucks.
