This is a wonderful accessory for our two chinchillas that we need to keep separate! The ramp connecting the top and bottom sections can be attached to separate the sections. For chinchillas, be sure to place fleece covers on the ramps as the gratings are not safe for them and they may get their feet trapped between the gratings. For those of you worried that chinchillas will eat wool, they won't. However, if you're really worried, chinchillas can definitely jump onto shelves without ramps. There is enough space in the cage to hang extra climbing bars, toys, wheels, etc. for your furry friends. Shelves can even be moved if you need more space for specific items. The shelf at the bottom is very convenient for your pets. We even put a bin on top of the cage for extra storage! The doors on the cage are great as you can fully open the front of the cage for easy access for cleaning. You can take out the trays, which greatly simplifies the cleaning process. The locks tighten so you don't have to worry about your furry friends escaping. To reduce the mess, I highly recommend buying a litter protector, especially for chinchillas. This keeps them from throwing their litter out of the cage at night. We also covered the back and sides of the cage with a tarp to protect our walls from any other mess the chinchillas might make. I'm taking off a star because the cage had a couple of misalignments that we had to correct during assembly. However, there was nothing a hammer couldn't fix. Otherwise the packaging was great! Nothing was damaged or open or anything like that when it arrived at our doorstep. I found the instructions pretty easy to follow. It took us less than an hour to assemble the entire cage.
