Ideal hubs to create a unique wheelset

Ideal hubs to create a unique wheelset. They're strong, lightweight, and won't break the bank. Some pluses: alloy construction, sealed cartridge bearings, 6-arm freehub with 72 engagement points, and they come with quality QR skewers. Another feature of the XM470 and 490 hubs is common spare parts; This means you can install thru-axles or a QR with a $10 kit (Search: Koozer adapters). You can even swap a freehub body between Shimano and SRAM XD Drive for $24. There's no need to buy a new wheelset if you upgrade your frame, fork, or drivetrain in the future (or if you accidentally blow up a loose hub). They come with very little grease so the chambers and freewheel are almost dry when unpacked, causing the freewheel to whine loudly and likely to explode after a few heavy uses due to water and dirt friction. Here's how you can fix it: 1) After removing the freehub, it literally just pops off and the axle cover pulls away from it, exposing one of the bearings. 2) Using a sewing needle with a sharp bent tip, pry off the black bearing seals (from the outer edge to save the delicate inner seal) 3) then stuff really tight with grease (the red thing from the auto parts store) the drive side 3 bearings - 2 on the freewheel hub and one on the hub. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently push the seals back in. 4) Apply a liberal amount of lube to the shanks of the free sleeve, making sure to get it under each tooth. 5) Carefully reassemble by twisting counterclockwise and pushing to put the paws back in place. This can be done for both the front hub and rear non-drive side bearing by prying the caps out from the inside with a QR spatula. Simply apply a drop of grease to the bearings and the inside of the caps to repel dirt and water from the races.
