. My cat was stolen in the middle of the night, which certainly happened to most people who bought this product. I followed the steps below to install a new cat on my 2008 Prius1. I installed a new O2 sensor on a new cat as the original one was stolen along with my original cat2. I removed the front floor panel bracket which is located just below the exhaust pipe.3. I removed the resonator from the rubber mounts which caused play in the rear exhaust pipe (from the resonator to the muffler). 4. I lowered the resonator a few inches. I put a new cat tail on the exhaust pipe that was left just in front of the resonator (about 2.5 inches) after the thieves cut off the old cat. I rotated the spool into position aligning the holes on the exhaust manifold and the new spool while simultaneously sliding the new cat tail over the remaining pipe in front of the resonator until the new cat pipe slid up the resonator . I was lucky enough to salvage one of the original springs and old screws from the original cat. I screwed the old bolt and spring into one side of the exhaust manifold.8. The new springs that come with the spool are too long making it difficult or impossible for the old bolt and new spring to engage the exhaust manifold. I could not tighten the second bolt on the exhaust manifold.9. I tightened the pipe clamp that came with the new Cat.10. I will follow the procedure outlined by others and try to compress the new spring in a vise as others have explained that after compressing the new spring that comes in the box it does not return to its original length so it should be able to simply compress the spring enough to install on the exhaust manifold.11. Oddly enough, I lowered the car to the ground and stopped at the parking space, and the sound of the car became as quiet as before. 12. I was also able to clear the oxygen sensor codes and everything seems fine13. I will address the spring length issue and then update this review. ----------------------- Updated 05/18/211. I bought a giant C-Clip from Home Depot2. I compressed the spring in clamp C and shortened the length of the spring as described by other reviewers. The spring should be flat and have a notch on the stud as shown in the images above3. I was then able to attach the 2nd bolt to the exhaust manifold.4. Now I have to wait for my 2008 Prius to pass all the inspection tests.
