Although it fits (very small in-ear with no other sizes) and works well, it is not as loud as a boom-style microphone/headset (e.g. with a long black microphone that comes from your ear in front of your face and sits next to your mouth) that comes with the Midland GXT1000 VP4 headsets. I would say that this headset accounts for maybe 60% of the volume. It's nice that two are included and if you're in a quieter area you'll be fine. But if you're going to use this in any situation involving music or crowds, I'd look elsewhere. Unfortunately, Midland doesn't offer any other options for this "observation" style headset. So here at Revain I tried the TAPaulk Pro Series Surveillance Style Headset for Midland Two-Pin Radios and it's MUCH better. It will be more expensive, but you really do get what you pay for, and most importantly to me, its volume is close, if not 100%, to that of louder boom-style headphones.
