I bought this because my Surface Pro 5 1796 survived the "death of Wi-Fi + Bluetooth" two years later . The easiest and cheapest way to overcome this shortcoming was to purchase this USB WiFi Bluetooth Adapter 600Mbps 2.4/5GHz External Dual Band Wireless Receiver Mini WiFi Dongle for PC/Laptop/Desktop at Revain, but since this USB device constantly occupies only the Surface USB port, I thought it would be nice to have more ports. It offers more USB ports, an SD card reader, an HDMI output, and has the right jack spacing to match the Surface Pro. He even looks pretty cool. What it does NOT do is 1) provide enough power to run my Seagate external drive and 2) allow the Surface to boot with a USB network adapter installed. The download hangs for a few minutes and eventually completes, but the USB device doesn't show up in Device Manager. These aren't major shortcomings - I can remove the USB hub and plug the drive directly into a single USB port and just remove and reinsert the USB adapter when the Surface restarts. It's just an annoyance that caused me to deduct 2 stars from the "perfect rating" of 5.
