I have had a Bernina overlock machine for many years, unfortunately I bought it a year before they added the coverstitch but it has been a workhorse for me. It's just a terrible pain to have to overcast and go to the sewing machine to use a twin needle to finish the hem. I've been evaluating 5-thread overlocks for a while. Some manufacturers don't make them anymore (that's you, Bernina), some only use a cover stitch, and many are very expensive ($1000++) with bells and whistles like air refills etc. I needed a good reliable machine that will work. - Hem, make a neat safety stitch for jerseys, a clean 3 or 4 thread overlock stitch for heavier fabrics and a cover stitch. After reading many reviews about this singer, I decided to make the jump to Christmas. It came the same day as Prime! The Overturner is heavy and like most new machines, it's made of cast composite. It comes with six extra legs for using elastic, beads, blindstitch, etc. The set contains the basic overlock tools (extra needles, bobbin and stitch holders, screwdriver, oil and the most important tool: TWEEZERS! I'll get back to you. ) The operating instructions describe the assembly and cutting in some detail. The kit includes a workbook on CD, but you can find the manual and workbook online. **** I strongly encourage you to become familiar with this machine by working through each stitch in your workbook. It's a very good workbook, but even for an experienced seamstress like me, the threading patterns for the lower looper and coverstitch are very different from my Bernina and it took me a while to get used to them. By the time you've finished your workbook, you'll already be familiar with needle and looper threading. It's really very important. I cut a bundle 2.5 x 6 inches. Muslin rectangles and embroidered samples of each stitch, then he wrote down all the settings with a thin marker on the fabric for convenience for future threading and programming. Of course, some stitches require tension adjustment. This serger offers an automatic tension feature when threading the machine, but make sure you create the stitch as shown in the workbook and this will require you to adjust the looper tension from time to time. The opening stitch is great. I am so happy with chain stitch and 2 and 3 thread coverstitch. What an amazing $400+ car! I admit I was scared as it's not an expensive serger but I'm so glad I bought it. The overlock stitch is just magical, especially on cotton and knit fabrics. I made 15 test stitches from the workbook and will probably use six regularly, but it's nice to know that this overlocker is able to sew so many different stitches. My Bernina wasn't silent, this one is about the same, but it's an overlock. , I don't expect it to purr. The machine sews smoothly and I like the pedal pressure adjustment. The only criticism is that the pedal is not as big and solid as on my old overlock. Great overlay at a great price. No, it's not breathable, but your tweezers will be your best friend when threading this machine. And Ott's light. Take your time, work through the threading charts and workbook and this machine will give you great sewing options for home and professional projects alike.
