I first tested the Phanteks Halos Lux for my YouTube channel and found it to be a great way to add some color to your existing case fans if you have an RGB enabled Phanteks case and /or have a compatible ASUS motherboard. Gigabyte or MSI with RGB connector. But I wanted to know if the cheaper Halos are worth a look for those who don't want to spend $20 on a Lux. There are a few differences between Halos and Halos Lux, all aesthetic. Lux is made of aluminum while regular Halos are plastic, Lux has a braided cable while Halos doesn't, and Lux comes with an RGB adapter required to connect to a compatible motherboard while Halos doesn't does (you have to spend money another 5 dollars). But for $10 it will still work if all you have is a Phanteks RGB-capable case, and even if you need an adapter you're still paying $15 versus $20. My original unit was faulty (top 3 LEDs were red instead of purple) but Phanteks customer service got me a replacement in less than a week which works great. Color wise there is no difference between Lux and Halos and I'm sure you won't notice any difference between metal and plastic inside the case. The cable is noticeable, but cable management geeks will find a way to hide it, so I guess sleeveless or sleeveless doesn't matter. The bottom line is if you're looking to save a few bucks this is very acceptable and does a good job of adding color to your existing fans without having to shell out big bucks on RGB fans and/or controllers. Does what it's supposed to and is very cheap. And no, I don't believe in the RGB rainbow effect. I use lighting effects to create specific color schemes that I can change at any time.
