I believe it was recommended by ATK for making pancakes. I really wanted him to work, so I took him on a hike. I figured the bonus of not having an open pitcher or dough bowl would be fewer problems with bees in the dough and less mess. First, it hurts to fill it up because the hole isn't that big. Second, the hole is small, so the dough won't come out easily. It's also hard plastic and difficult to "squeeze" to extrude more dough. It worked well (not very well) for a pancake or two, but as the batter settled and thickened it became completely unusable. If you're making blueberry or chocolate batter, forget it. You will have a hard time (no pun intended) getting out through the hole. I've gone back to a basic mixing jar and don't think I'll try the batter dispenser again unless I need to make pancakes on a conveyor belt, and then I'd go for a more expensive full-size stainless steel restaurant dispenser. I do not recommend.
