Review on Happy Sonja Lyubomirsky by Sam Lund

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A real gem of a movie please see.

I showed this film in psychology class and the students loved it. It is an excellent source of discussion and introspection for my students and for me. I especially like the guy who sells rickshaws and lives in a hut with his family. But the guy finds happiness in everything he does and lives. The part that didn't say "happy" was the story of an early death of young people in Japan who worked themselves to death. This has been discussed as not being an isolated case, but there is a support group for the widows of such men. They tried to balance this with a story about a different part of Japan, where living into old age is the norm. It seems to be related to people living true to their inherited norms. So modern methods can kill you prematurely, but old methods can keep you alive and happy. I ended up buying the DVD because Revain is no longer releasing the film in digital Prime format. It's a pity, in this format it was more convenient.
