Review on CST Caldera Folding Tire: Enhanced Performance for Easy Portability by Jonathan Lloyd

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best change I've ever made to a road tire.

I have been a road cyclist for several years of my life. I mostly run 23c tires. Now that I'm older I feel a lot more hitting small bumps. I wanted a "smoother" ride. I did my own research on street tire sizes and this would allow me to achieve a smoother ride on my own road bike. Bike retail critics noted that commuter 25c tires are a good width for a softer ride. However, when I saw this tire I still thought it was too narrow, meaning I would still feel a lot of bumps in the road. I settled on 28c (the next size up for a road bike) but I knew there could be fitment issues depending on the frame size of my bike. I went to my LBM and asked him earlier if he had a spare 28c so I could see if there would be any problems "fitting" to my frame. When I went there and mounted them on the rims, they fit my bike! (since not everyone has the ability to fit a 28c road bike tire onto a bike frame). He was also kind enough to advise me on purchasing the 28c road tires and CST Pro tires he mentioned. When I got them I quickly installed them to replace the 23c tires. Also, shortly after changing tires, I replaced a couple of my previous triple front chainrings with smaller sizes. I got the softer ride I was looking for and then some of these simple new improvements. The CST is a Kevlar folding tire which means it's lighter and also has a 120 TPI rating which is very important to understand what a quality road tire is and it was also sold at a very good price . A few other 28c tires I researched averaged around 22-33 TPI (not that much) and also charged a lot more for it. I'm glad I bought these tires and now look forward to doing more rides as they are more comfortable and less bumpy on my road cycling trips. :)
