Bad quality control.
If you're going to spend $50 on a mouse pad, it better be good. Unfortunately it isn't. The top layer of my mouse pad is peeling off. Also, this thing attracts dust like no other. I don't know if it's quality control related and I just got a bad one, but for the price that shouldn't be a problem. I am extremely unsatisfied.
