Review on Samyang SY12M-FX-BK: Superior Ultra Wide Angle Lens for Fujifilm X-Mount Cameras in Classic Black Color by Boyan Temelski ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I'm amazed! It was definitely worth the money!

I've used this lens for the past 3.5 years. compatible with the Fujifilm X-E1 camera. The lens is flawlessly put together, and the "manual" focus ring rotation is silky smooth and just slightly stiff. The metal mount is of high quality and does not jiggle or vibrate. The lens itself is made entirely of plastic. A hood that, in contrast to the one included with the standard 16–50, can be reliably attached thanks to its sturdy mount. When on the road, this was the primary lens of choice. Excellent for landscape and building photography. Ideal for taking panoramic photos. Getting a picture with straight lines is as easy as aiming for the horizon, as geometric aberrations are minimal. On the focus scale, the hyperfocal distance is denoted by a tick. From around 1 meter to infinity is razor sharp at F8. When things like that happen, it's impossible to concentrate. Aperture F11 is useless because there is no sharpness or contrast. Convenient for a genre portrait, with one caveat: the subject must be positioned dead center, because the foreground is severely extended at the frame's corners due to perspective distortions. Little details: The front cover stays put only on standard-thickness protection filters and continues flying off when using thin ones. This lens's rear cover fits securely when used with genuine Fujifilm. It has native lens caps hanging from it. The lens is securely fastened to the camera, and the bayonet is expertly crafted.

Pros
  • This lens is made for digital SLRs without a mirror. The size, quality, style, and craftsmanship of the hood all impressed me. Quality of images captured between F2 and F8. Maintains backlighting respectably. There is no bending of spacetime.
Cons
  • My version breaks at F11 and larger apertures. Sharpness and contrast are diminished.
