It was recommended by a professional carpet cleaner to kill mold on carpets and I admit I bought it on that recommendation without doing much research, but the active ingredient is phenol. Phenol is extremely toxic and extremely volatile, which is why it evaporates with the air we breathe. As a chemist, I would never use this in a lab without a vent. I wish I didn't have this product in my house. Before you buy, read the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for phenol and consider using it in your home. However, I gave it three stars because it's recommended by a professional carpet cleaner who does a great job and I find it really effective against mold and mildew. It has to do what it has to do and also pose a health hazard to those around it. I will also mention that one of the recommended usage directions involves using a spray bottle. Be careful what you use. We used the atomizer, didn't use all the liquid and what was left stayed in the atomizer. It ate the plastic and spilled out of the ground in two days leaving us with quite a mess to clean up and toxic dirt that stinks, making the air toxic and a hazard to our children. As a chemist, I should have understood that phenol is an organic solvent and will eat away at some plastics. Even though it comes in a plastic bottle, the plastic in your device may not be able to withstand this organic solvent.
