Review on πŸ”Œ Decker Wireless Remote Control Outlet Remotes by Virgilio Patton

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Note that you probably shouldn't be plugging them into a surge protector

The instructions talk about plugging the receiver's outlets into a wall outlet and make no mention of whether it's safe to plug into a surge protector/surge protector . I wrote to the company but didn't expect an answer yet. Since I couldn't find the information in their FAQ, I did what any sane person would do. I called my father. Dads are smart, right? Well, my father is smart and he's an electrician. In fact, he was an electrical inspector and taught people the rules of electrical engineering and electrical safety in the United States. The first thing he asked me was if this product was UL listed (I thought it was when I bought it. I always check for stuff like this and I think the Home Depot website said it was but instead I bought it from Revain, turns out this particular one I bought from Revain (same make and model) has a tag saying it's CSA listed huh except Canada is the same, so that's good). Next he said that every time you connect something to something else, heat is generated. Plugging it into an outlet and turning on a lamp or something was probably fine. That's TWO connectors. But he wouldn't plug it into a surge protector wired to the wall and then plug a lamp into it. There are THREE connections, so more heat. He also reminded me to make sure I'm not overloading my surge protectors or outlets. He's a great dad. :) You'll have to google it as you can see for yourself. :) In any case, this dampened my enthusiasm about using this product a bit as I wanted some devices currently protected by my surge protector to be connected to it. I was able to use it for a lamp, but now I have a few other plugs that I haven't found a use for. I would have bought a smaller package if I had known that. (Although I'm sure that one day I'll appreciate having the second remote that came with this kit if someone loses the first remote). But a lamp that's in a hard-to-reach spot is really easy to turn on with this product, so it's proven great. If you need an internal remote app for something that plugs into an outlet, feel free to buy this product. stripes, so it's really not the product's fault. However, it would be nice to know this in advance.
