Review on Magnepull XP1000 LC Wire Pulling System by David Miller

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not strong enough, with some design flaws

I repeat what many have said: the magnet is not strong enough and the case magnet is too big. This tool worked well for pulling wires through half an inch of drywall. But I bought it primarily to run long cords under rugs, and it only works well for the first four to five feet. On longer runs, the resistance accumulated from the friction of the wire running between the pad and the carpet becomes too great and the magnet cannot pull any further. If the magnet were stronger, and perhaps the teardrop magnet was shaped to offer less resistance, it would work better. It would also be nice to have a more convenient way to attach the wires you control to the drip magnet wire. In order for this tool to work for my carpet runners, I first need to move all of the furniture away from the rug to reduce friction, and then I need to do a "pit stop" where I direct the wire pull to the other wall. , even if it's not where I want the wire to go, then pull the rug up there and pull out all the wire I need, and then run from there. It's tedious and not an option for many runs going through the middle of a large room. Alternatively, I've combined Magnepull with traditional fish tape and had another person or two help me by pulling on the carpet where I'm running the wire to reduce frictional resistance, compensating for the weakness. reel magnet. Overall, Magnepull might have made the whole process of running the wire under the carpet a little easier, but certainly not so easy that it cost $130 given the complexity of the workarounds required to get the weak magnet down long stretches of carpet to get it running.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
