Great product: electric

For my use in several exterior walls where I had insulation this was the solution. No problem. For interior walls with no insulation it was really overkill: I threw away the wires, went down from the attic and saw the wire in front of the hole and the magnet just below. In another instance, the wire wasn't visible, but when he waved his wand in front of the baseboard, he found it in no time.

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • Easy to maintain

Mediocre tool: Electric

Mediocre at best. Really cool idea, but as another reviewer said, it's only really useful if you have drywall that's 1/2 inch or less thick and no insulation. I had to run a bundle of speaker and romex cables in an insulated wall with 5/8" drywall. This thing didn't help much. Where it works great in non-insulated walls is connecting HDMI from one combox to another combox for an installed TV so you don't see the wires. Also the magnet on the fishing wire is too big.It should be sharper than…

Installation 10/3 in a stable barn with interior wall cladding.

10/3 Installation in a barn with OSB and felt insulation as internal walls. External metal wall covered with an insulating blanket. Earlier I tried to use fishing tape, fishing rod but to no avail. This tool really did save a life and even allowed me to add 240 sockets to the existing 120 sockets on the same side of the 2*4. It turned out to be the easiest way to first route the cable with the tool and then the wire pull through with the cable. It's overpriced for what it is, but it really…

  • Consistent test results

  • Not all fit

Holy shit, that's a powerful magnet.

Be sure to read the instructions, watch the video, all you need to do to make sure you know how to use it. The number of low-star Diyer reviews may be the reason why the description recommends it for professional installers. Yes, be careful with metal spikes. I'll probably want a piece of rope attached to the tail to retrieve it in case it gets tangled in the line. I don't know when they increased the magnet strength but my 5 and 8 year olds could barely separate the reel from the plumb. These…

Good product but room for improvement

I bought this product to run Cat6 cabling around my house and convert my cable outlet to a dual cable/ethernet outlet. It looked easy enough. The drip magnet is a magnet, so will stick to anything metallic, including nails in a wall frame and TV mounting screws, which is very annoying. What would make the product so much better if it included two things: 1.) Falling weight (NOT magnetic). 2.) Fall magnet for smaller 1/2" hole. The included 3/4" led me to drill a larger hole in the attic, which…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Interval

This is used by professionals.

I have run cables through many different mediums (drywall, metal joists, ceiling tiles, underfloor spaces etc) and I have to say this device has become my new favorite way to run cables in almost every scenario . Compared to products from other manufacturers such as Klein, the magnet wire is much thinner and also has a much stronger magnetic force. The Magnepull is about the size of a fishing lure and is very easy to fit in a small hole, while the Klein is like a hockey puck cut in half - very…

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Very nice.: Tools for inserting and extracting cables

Very good, maybe a little expensive but again, it was worth all the research, development and tools it contains in one good case. The case allows for a small magnetic field despite being a wall. So take care of your CC. A version with a metal housing is available at a significantly higher price, which reduces magnetic fields significantly better. What is your opinion if it is worth it. Case could use a 1 1/8 spade bit socket if I was picky. What size hole do you suggest to pull a ball out of a…

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Really don't like it, everything is fine

Not strong enough, with some design flaws

I repeat what many have said: the magnet is not strong enough and the case magnet is too big. This tool worked well for pulling wires through half an inch of drywall. But I bought it primarily to run long cords under rugs, and it only works well for the first four to five feet. On longer runs, the resistance accumulated from the friction of the wire running between the pad and the carpet becomes too great and the magnet cannot pull any further. If the magnet were stronger, and perhaps the…

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
