M.2 is the way to go! **Updated with firmware update instructions***

I purchased this M.2 as an inexpensive bootable SSD for my new X99 system and have not been disappointed. It works just as well as my Intel SSD which is less than two years old and at a better price than their current SSD of the same size. I was concerned as I've never used Transcend's SSD option, but so far it's been a great budget choice. If you have a newer motherboard that can install M.2 I would buy that unless you need a larger boot drive. I bought this for my MSI X99 SLI Plus and I'm glad I did! Will buy again!***04/17/2016 Firmware Upgrade Guide***After weeks of searching for a firmware upgrade that wouldn't install according to Transcend's instructions, I found a Chinese forum with basic instructions for an alternative way to upgrade the firmware. I decided to create a guide to help others find an alternative solution. Remember that firmware updates are at your own risk and you will need to reinstall Windows if installed on this drive. Download and install Transcend SSD Scope, go to Firmware update. you can click on "Download". You will be notified once the process is complete (Transcend download is quite slow so please be patient). When finished, the software should create a folder on your C drive named Transcend_SSD_FW_Update_Package (if you don't have a D drive, this drive will be used by default). In the folder you will see the file N1126KB_TS256GMTS800_TS6500_L95B_QDPD.zip, unzip this file. When finished, open a new folder with the same name and you will see the .ISO file N1126KB_TS256GMTS800_TS6500_L95B_ODP (latest version in this example). You need to unzip this file (you can use a program like 7zip if you can't). After extracting there is a folder called "TCE", open this folder and you will see a file called mydata.tgz, copy this file to a flash drive. You then need to download a Linux distribution and use that to install the file. I got this working, once I found Puppy Linux you can do a google search for tahr-6.0.5_PAE (the first link on google took me to [.]) and download tahr-6.0.5_PAE.iso. Once this is complete, use your program of choice to burn it to a CD. Once this is done, you should restart your computer and make sure it boots from the CD. Once the download is complete you will be on your desktop. Below is the hard drives and flash drives icon. Select the flash drive with the mydata.tgz file. Click once on this file and a new window will appear on the screen, click Yes, then a new window will appear and click Yes. Click OK on the next pop-up window. Then click the "File" icon in the top left corner. In the new window, click the green up arrow once. In the next window, click once on the "opt" folder. Then click once on JDM_FW_Update_Tool and the firmware update program will start. It should show your Transcend drive in the list, click Refresh. Now when you're done, you'll get a shutdown pop-up, so go ahead and let it happen. Once it stops at a text prompt, you can eject the CD and unplug the USB flash drive. At this point you will need to restart Windows if your operating system is installed on this drive.
