I change our daughter's bedding every day, she spits a lot, so I have a flannel blanket under my head. Our first lid had mold from moisture getting in, although I change it regularly. The problem is that the cover is not washable like most crib mattresses, so moisture gets trapped in the fabric. Now I check it every day to make sure it's not raw! I just think it's good to know when you're making a purchase whether you have a child that spits up a lot or sweats a lot. I changed her flannel blanket every day and apparently it got soaked and slightly moldy.
