Not as good as I expected

Only got it a week ago so can't confirm its durability yet but seems to be well made and made of good materials. Most stainless steel but Chinese. Unlike the other two I've had, it has plastic: an inner lid and a strainer. There is also Secura and Francois. They appear to be identical in appearance except for the outer lid design. The Secura has worked well for the past two years, but apparently internal dimensions have changed and you can't get a replacement steel filter of the correct size - although the seller won't tell you this until you buy the wrong filters in the pot. So instead of getting another Secura, I went with Bodum. What I like more is the subjective look, the shorter the wider the size, the easier it is to empty and clean, and it feels good in the hand when pouring. I don't like it - it doesn't bother me any better, in fact I used two filters in the secura and got less dregs in the cup. You can't do that with Bodum. The plastic itself doesn't bother me, but it's cheaper to make and the pot is more expensive. The plastic is thicker than the same steel part and should be subjected to less stress due to the smaller surface area. The actual screen of the screen also appears to be plastic, on the fuse it is steel. I understand where some say the Bodum is a snug fit, but it's not. In fact, you can pour anywhere along the lid. Don't really know if a good seal makes the coffee better by saving steam! Bodum costs 50% more than secura and as I said there are plastic parts. It also feels warmer on the outside - I'm guessing it either has less airspace or the steel is thinner. So that it loses heat faster. That doesn't bother me, because after cooking it is emptied immediately. In general, the same coffee, ground in the same grinder, tastes no better and no worse for a lot of money. I like that it's a little easier to clean and I do it regularly 7 days a week so I keep it to myself.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
