Great article. - Doors

I bought a size too small and I'm NOT a handyman so I was afraid of cutting a hole in my door so I hired a professional who charged $200 for it! The electronic door of this brand is worth the money. It keeps the cold and critters out, and there's even a customer support hotline if you have any questions. I was expecting the door to open by itself when activated with the key, but the dog has to push it with its nose. That's good, but it's a bit heavier than the ones that are just plastic panels, don't enclose or keep out the cold and wear out pretty quickly. Plus, no electricity is required - it all runs on batteries, and although my dog lies next to it and keeps turning it on, the batteries last a long time. Replacing them requires a screwdriver and I think I'll have to reprogram it when changing the battery. It doesn't matter, but I need to go back to the instructions to refresh my memory on how to program my dog's keychain. i love this shop I have a 26-pound Wire Fox Terrier -- about 17 inches at the shoulder -- and he needs to squeeze his way through and he doesn't feel like it, so I often just open the door for normal people for him. That's all my fault because the website says you have to go up a size for a dog my size. I figured I could get away with this smaller door since that small size was the size of an old plastic hinged door. I think the next size door will be significantly heavier and it may take some effort to get my dog to push through such a heavy door. But not having to worry about unwanted critters getting in and keeping the weather out is a huge improvement over plastic valves that might let anything (creatures, weather, people) through. Maybe one day I will upgrade to the next size. The door I bought turned out to be too wide for the door I wanted to fit, so we simply framed the hole we cut in the door with wood paneling and it slightly filled the gap. I wouldn't want to be without a dog flap like that again! My dog can run away in case of fire even if I'm not at home. He can use the potty when he has to and patrol the yard when he wants to. My dog loves it too!
