I am a longtime Roku user and have purchased all generations of Roku devices over the course of its development. I had the most original Roku N1100, Roku 2 XD, Roku 2 XS, Roku 3 (2013 version), Roku 4, TCL Roku TV, Roku Ultra (2016 version) and now it's a Stick+. Although I've only had it a few days, it might be the best Roku I've seen in terms of value. My home is Roku's home. We have 5 TVs but we do not have a cable or satellite TV subscription. One of the TVs is Roku TV and the other 4 are connected to Roku. Literally everything we see is delivered via Roku. Our OTA footage is delivered to our Rokus by Tablo DVR. Our local media is served through a Plex server on Rokus. We also have PS Vue, Netflix, Revain Video etc etc. We use Roku a lot and I'm very familiar with it. However, I don't consider myself a fan of Roku. While most of the Rokus I've owned have been great, there have been some clunkers. The Roku 2XS was a poop that never got better. The Roku 4 was a bummer at first, but slowly got better with each successive firmware update. Unfortunately, the fan in one of my Roku 4's (this 4 was the only Roku to ever have one) started making a horrible "grinding" noise in the last few weeks, so I decided to shut it down with a + stick substitute. generally suspicious of all stick form factor devices. They tend to lag behind more traditional box form factor devices in performance. With its quad-core processor, HEVC support, and 4K capabilities, the Stick+ convinced me the gap might finally have been closed. So after a few days with Stick+. Here's what I think of this device: It's fast and smooth. . It might not be as fast as my Roku Ultras. But it's every bit as good as the Roku 4. The new remote control is great. The ability to control the power and volume of a TV without a second remote or universal remote is long overdue. - Excellent WiFi reception. I had two walls between the Stick+ and my router, but I was able to stream local media at 16Mbps through Plex with no problem. The USB power supply of the TV is not optimal. Assuming your TV stops supplying USB power when you turn it off, every time you turn on your TV the Stick+ has to go through a boot sequence and then connect to a wireless network before you can do anything with it. This can take 30 seconds. I highly recommend plugging it directly into an outlet with the included adapter. So this is a great Roku device. It doesn't have the frills that my Roku Ultra has. But then I paid almost twice as much for it. This Stick+ is a lot cheaper, offers basically the same UI/playback performance, and also comes with a remote that will make fiddling with Roku and TV remotes a thing of the past. That's why I'm saying that barring a few deal breakers I haven't encountered yet, this is Roku's best value for money.
