I use 1/8 inch twine to secure the tarp over the firewood. I've been using the same cords for several years and they're still in great condition, so they will definitely stand up to the elements. As the firewood pile gets smaller over the winter, I have to re-knot the cords to shorten them, and the cords never unravel by itself, easy to solve. I use 3/8" cord for the outerwear drying line (energy saving and nice smell when drying outside). Again, the cord has been used for years and stays fine. It didn't get moldy like the rope I used.
