I checked several cones and they were all either too short or too soft but this one is long enough that my dog can't reach his hind leg. He can also "dip" into his bed and fold up the front, which also helps with eating or drinking when I'm not at home and can put it away. It's also soft enough not to bump it when jumping out of the car, which was a big problem with hard plastics, although being able to see through them was a plus, but they were too hard on my neck, legs, furniture, etc . the downside is that the dog obviously can't see through it and it gets dirty quickly. Washes fairly easily and dries quickly but still tends to stink of his saliva etc. The main problem is that ours started to come loose in less than 2 weeks, even if they were mostly just worn indoors. The fit is ok, there are multiple size options but not much in between. Fits me well and the velcro closure is great.
