Simple and effective; far from ideal port layout for cable routing

The switch itself is very simple. Unlike other switches, there are no cables built in, so you don't have to deal with a set of 6-foot or 2-meter cables dangling from it. You can use cables of appropriate length. The device switching button is surrounded by an indicator that changes color from blue to green to show the output. Another benefit is that the device communicates the identity of the keyboard and mouse, unlike other switches that only indicate that it's a keyboard and mouse, which is important if you have software configured for a specific device . For example, Logitech devices can be configured in software to map buttons to different functions. This KVM switch allows this because the calculation can see what kind of device it is. An improvement is that all KVM inputs are on the front of the switch. I'm using a wireless keyboard and mouse, but the monitor cable needs to be routed around to connect to the front panel. Not the best design, especially if you have a wired keyboard and mouse. A better design would be to put the entrances on the side or put everything on the back. The switch needs to be accessible, and the presence of cables on the front and back makes it difficult to place and keep on your desk. This is a fairly compact switch, so design choices like the ones I'm proposing can make a huge difference in the form factor, and not necessarily for the better. Aside from the cabling issue, the switch is great and works very well.
