Review on Humminbird IDMK700 Dash Mounting Kit by James Edwards

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Expensive for such an unfortunate design.

This is an expensive kit considering you only get a couple of screws, a wire harness and a bent piece of aluminium. If everything went well and no changes were needed, I wouldn't mind. However, I had to make major modifications to the aluminum mount to make it work on my Triton's nose. The problem is that the mount is too long to use. It needs to be long enough to cover the portion of the viewfinder that protrudes through the dash, so why did Humminbird make it longer than the overall unit's external dimensions? If you had a roomy dash with nothing else attached then that might not be a problem, but I've never seen such a spot on any boat I've been on. about 1.5 inches so it clears a hole in my nose plate. I still had to shave off one side of the panel hole to accommodate the actual device, but the mount was about 1.5 inches too long to even get close. A one-hour project turned into several hours of work. I suspect installing the console will have the same issues. I chose this sonar to match my boat's panel size, as I'm sure a lot of people do. There's no point paying $25 for a mount that requires 2 inches more clearance than necessary.

Pros
  • For use with most 700 and 500 series units.
