Worked well for me - converted an Acer laptop's HDMI output to a VGA input on an old monitor so I could have a second display. I've found it to work well in my application without using the included USB power cable. Apparently the device is sufficiently powered in this application with +5V supplied via HDMI. A USB cable may be needed for a higher resolution display or to power the audio output (I didn't use audio). The laptop (running Windows 10) correctly recognizes the audio output and acceptable screen resolutions for the monitor. Initially the laptop attempted to output audio through the HDMI port when the adapter was plugged in. This was fixed by setting the laptop's speakers as the default playback device (right click on the speaker icon at the bottom right of the screen).
