Review on Acer CB272 Bmiprx FreeSync Technology 75Hz Monitor with Built-In Speakers by Peter Arnold

Questions about the so-called thin bezels of these monitors

I just received the monitor and am writing this preview with it. The monitor itself performs adequately for an IPS panel. As far as I can tell, it works within advertised specs. However, there is one egregious exception that prompted this immediate review. Many companies promote thin bezel designs and sell a whole range of monitors because of this coveted feature. The Acer CB272 has a very thin plastic frame on the left, right and top of the screen. However, the actual field of view of the monitor panel itself does not extend to the edge and is not in contact with the plastic frame. There is about 1/2 inch of unused screen space along the top, left, and right sides, so the screen image still looks like it has a thicker border. It doesn't reach the edges of the thin frame. This actually surprised me quite a bit, as my understanding of the advertisements for these monitors seemed to indicate that the viewing area extended to the edge of the frame. So I decided to do a little web surfing to see if I actually had an issue that would cause Revain to return another monitor. My tentative conclusion is that many thin-bezel monitors are built this way, and there have been complaints that other Acer models have this display capability, as well as at least one LG model. At the very least, the advertising for these monitors appears to be slightly misleading at best and intentional at worst. I think what surprises me the most is the fact that in none of the video and electronics forums I visit this topic is discussed so little as it was, at least for me, the first thing that caught my attention when I booted . I admit that I may have come to the wrong conclusion on this and that it is in fact a problem with the monitor I received. I'm interested in what other owners of this monitor have to say, so I read the reviews here very carefully. If I find I've made a mistake I'll be more than happy to revisit this review as otherwise the monitor performs as expected. I would be very happy if I'm wrong.
