My grandmother was an exceptional seamstress. Her best advice to me was not to buy cheap yarn. If you need to save money, do it another way, but always make sure your yarn is of the best quality or you will regret it sooner or later. I temporarily ignored this advice and bought lots of variegated yarns in bundles, blinded by the variety of colors and the low price. My grandmother was right - cheap thread broke, wore out and clogged so badly that I found myself threading the machine every 5 minutes. I ended up putting them all in a bag to use for anything other than sewing (if I ever figured out what to do with them!) and immediately bought these spools of thread from Coats & Clark. Grandma used that and she knew what she was talking about. From now on I plan to stock up on other colors from this brand and will never buy cheap dye sets again!
